With the all-new European Honda Accord set to debut next month in Geneva, word is that buyers will be disappointed to hear there are apparently no plans to launch a high-performance Type-R version of the new chassis. Honda does not feel the all-new model fits the Type-R brand, adding that the new European Accord is designed to propel the company into competing with the likes of BMW and Audi. Honda does have plans to release Accords with modified suspension and body kits, but with standard engines, much like Audi does with its S-line models.
The United States will see the all-new Euro Accord re-badged as the 2009 Acura TSX, first arriving at the New York Auto Show next month.

Does anyone else in here besides me believe that the additional $1k-3k for some extra plastic to be added to the car seems like a waste? S-line sucks ass.
Daniel @ Feb 24th 2008 5:52PM
Yeah people buy it, so every car company does it.
Disappointing though, cause Type-R adds a lot more than body panels
Chaz @ Feb 24th 2008 1:47PM
Do they mean renaming it Accord R or something? I would argue that the presence of a harder edged variant (would make for more parallels with ze Germans, (i.e. S6, E63, M5, etc.).

"Honda does not feel the all-new model fits the Type-R brand, adding that the new European Accord is designed to propel the company into competing with... BMW and Audi."
I don't like the sound of that. Reading between the lines, it sounds like they're saying it's fatter and softer and more insulated from the road, the better to appeal to luxury buyers.
If that's the case, at least they've got the sense to not release a lobotomized Type-R.

They want to compete with BMW and Audi with what, 4-cylinder engines only in this model? Good luck.
Aetius @ Feb 24th 2008 2:03PM
Damn thats a nice car. The only Honda in NA I would buy is the Civic Coupe Si. But if we had that...
Mike P @ Feb 24th 2008 2:10PM
We do/will have that... it's called the Acura TSX.
Bill @ Feb 24th 2008 2:29PM
I understand that the TSX we have here in the states is the same thing as the "Euro" accord, but do they sell the NA Accord in Europe under a different name, or is it not sold there at all?
Alpha @ Feb 24th 2008 2:44PM
It isn't sold here.
Dustin @ Feb 24th 2008 2:47PM
The NA Accord isn't sold in Europe, but it is in Japan as the upscale Inspire and other Asian countries as Accord.
cameron42985 @ Feb 24th 2008 2:34PM
That's a pretty ideal interior by my standard.
Sammy G @ Feb 24th 2008 2:37PM
compete with BMW and Audi? more like lexus and buick.
Bring the RDX turbo and SH-AWD (with a rear bias) and then you'll be competing with Audi and BMW.
This car is a waste, I'm 25 and I'd still rather have the boy racer civic si, same power far less dough.
Sid @ Feb 24th 2008 2:57PM
I agree. Even though its a good looking car, unless they can give me the wagon version with a kick-ass engine and a 6-sp manual, I'd rather spend a bit more and get an Audi.
Za @ Feb 24th 2008 9:52PM
I would go to Canada and buy it in Acura flavor - CSX-S since I could get a Civic with leather that way.
why not the LS2LS7? @ Feb 25th 2008 11:49AM
SH-AWD can never be rear-biased because it is an FWD system with a PTO for the part time rear wheels drive. Most of the time the rear wheels are off completely.
stefan @ Feb 24th 2008 2:59PM
Japan will probably get a new accord type r, only its not called type R but euro R. the last 2 generations of JDM accord had the euro R with a 220BHP K20a.
accord745 @ Feb 24th 2008 3:34PM
I guess this also means there's no Type-S model for the TSX?
I was really hoping for a TSX with a turbo engine and/or SH-AWD, but (unfortunately) it doesn't look like Acura will go in that direction.
Daniel @ Feb 24th 2008 5:57PM
That would be a Type-R rather than Type-S. But I'd highly doubt that would happen anyway (especially a turbo).
Honda enthusiasts are having enough trouble getting a Civic Type-R over here...
Sorry for double post--reply didn't work
Seoultrain @ Feb 24th 2008 8:26PM
nope, type S. Hot Euro Hondas are Type-R, hot Acuras are Type-S. We did have the Acura Integra Type-R, but since then, there's been the TL Type-S and RSX Type-S.
Yeah, I would think no TSX Type-S, as that would cannibalize TL sales. The two cars are already too close to each other.
Don One @ Feb 24th 2008 3:49PM
too bad!
