March 2008 was the first month of sales for the Jaguar XF, and while we haven't seen any around town yet, the Hail Mary sedan from Coventry is selling extremely well... at least by Jaguar standards. The Jaguar brand has consistently been losing sales month over month since we began reporting sales numbers in our By the Numbers posts. In February 2008, the brand sold just 1,063 units. As you've already seen, March 2008 sales numbers have been released, and the XF by itself sold 1,161 units, a number that's sure to grow as the sport sedan penetrates the media and its marketing campaign gets off the ground. Because of the XF's sales performance last month, the brand sold 1,752 units in March 2008, its best performance since July 2006 when it moved 1,997 units. If Jaguar does rebound on the back of the XF, it's too bad Ford won't be around to enjoy the fruits of its investment.

This car is RAD - although pictures don't do it justice. Good for Jaguar - they deserve to stick around...

Agreed, never buy one, but like to see them keep this up. Amazing what producing a solid product will bring you, wait for it, SALES! Who knew!

Jaguar has been making solidly relaible cars for a LONG time now. Didn't take long for Ford's money and parts bin to sort out the real issues that Jag had with quality. Basicly the V8 era has had very strong reliablity numbers compared to other high end cars with all the toys.
However I guess I shouldn't complain because the fact people haven't woken up to this means that a CPO Jag is an insane deal. Get a 4yr old XJR for WRX money. With a couple years left on the CPO warrenty.

I got to see the XF at the New York auto show and pictures don't really do it justice. It looks pretty good on the outside, but it's the inside that really shines. Jaguar did an awesome job on the interior, simple and clean layout with a solid feel.

I agree. I was skeptical of the XF until I saw it at the Chicago show. It's very nice and should do well for Jaguar.

Tata is the big winner. They let Ford sink billions of dollars to turn Jaguar around and when it finally seems to be righting itself--it sells it.

Jaguar was only down for what, 4 or 5 years straight? It just happens to be that when Jaguar is finally sold off, it happens to come out with a car people want.

They knew it would turn around, but Ford cannot continue to support the cost of product developement for Jag. They are faced with limited financial resources and many products to spend money to develop. They simply chose to invest that money into the Ford and Lincoln nameplates instead of all these secondary companies that they bought under the two times removed regime.

I just saw a black one outside CPK in Marina del Rey yesterday and it was SO F***ING HOT! i swear, if i hadn't just gotten a new BMW a month ago I would have driven to the nearest Jaguar dealership and taken it for a test drive... maybe next year after they've worked out all the kinks and bugs from the first year...

Ford made out like a bandit... remember they will be supplying engines and other parts for many years to come without any of the overhead of R&D, waranty, advertising, management costs that TaTa now will assume.

Not True. From the Press Release...
"Ford also has committed to provide engineering support, including research and development, plus information technology, accounting and other services."
I also read somewhere that Ford would be picking up some of the Warranty bills, but I can't find that quote. Guess you'll have to take my word for it.

The XF is going to do very well. I've been saying for a long time on this blog that photos don't do the car justice and people are going to react very well to the sensual lines. Hopefully, my wife will get one, but I'm not holding my breath.

I saw one of these Sunday, after completely forgetting it existed since reading about it last year (it's not exactly in my price range), about half an hour south of Green Bay, WI (Packers), and was completely floored. I was even more stunned to learn this thing starts a hair under $60k.

Funny, I was driving past the Jag dealership in Atlanta and saw the lot full of XF's. Have yet to see any on the road though.
