Dodge Challenger could start at $23,995

Click above for a high-res gallery of the Dodge Challenger SE and R/T.A "top company executive" has supposedly leaked pricing of the base Dodge Challenger to the Freep and the 250 hp, V6-equipped model could set pony car fanatics back $23,995. Although official pricing hasn't been disclosed for the full Challenger range, the SRT8 model is already carrying a $37,320 price tag, so pricing the base model somewhere south of $25,000 was expected. However, that puts the entry-level Challenger $4,000 above the V6 Ford Mustang, priced at $19,650. While we were hoping that the low-end Challenger would be closer to the $20k mark, if the $23,995 base price is to be believed, there's no doubt that we'll be seeing plenty of Dodge's new hotness populating the streets when it goes on sale later this year.

Both the Challenger and Camaro will cost more than the Mustang, but not substantially more. Either way there's going to be a load of SE and R/Ts roaming the streets, especially here in the Southwest. Chrysler has a hit on their hands.
tbss_in_the_D @ Apr 22nd 2008 12:48PM
I would be willing to bet that the Camaro and the Challenger both have better interiors than the craptastic base mustang.
MemphisNET @ Apr 22nd 2008 12:52PM
These cars have historically always been more expensive, lower volume. So I'm not surprised one bit - and it's still a great value overall.
Best value will be the R/T - especially with the power bump in the standard Hemi.

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
I thought this was already out.
When's the refresh due?
Mr. Oak @ Apr 22nd 2008 1:03PM
That butt ugly Subaru is much more in need of a refresh.
Duders @ May 5th 2008 12:03PM
I assume you're coming at the new impreza? It's not as good looking as the past few models (which everyone thought were ugly as well) but it's definitely a handsome looking car. I love the look of the wrx sedan. Doesn't stick out as much in traffic without those giant fender flares and huge hood scoop.
Still on a scale of how much I love these cars the previous gen body was a 10/10 and the current 08 model is about 3/10. It's a good looking car, but I love the older models styling much, much more.
naggs @ Apr 22nd 2008 1:55PM
dont kid yourself, the base and wrx imprezas are styling disasters
tankd0g @ Apr 22nd 2008 2:38PM
I remember the first time I saw the new WRX hatch I thought how could they make that any uglier? Then I clicked on the sedan...

Well,
I will say that we have been seeing pics of both cars for about the same time and the STi has been available for a while now. So I thought that the Challenger should be too.
Both, frankly are old news. But the Challenger is older news since it is - in appearance - a copy of what was around when I was a kid. That would make it some 40 years old...and in need of a refresh.
At least for the Subaru - like many "Bangle-esque" designs - it looks much better in 3 dimensions than in 2. And for those of you who are thinking: "But wait until you really see the Challenger." I did, 40 years ago.
Both old news.

Hey Subie Boy: Face it, no one buys Subarus for their looks. The old SVT is the closest thing Subaru has to a good looking car, and you might be able to make a case for the Legacy. Everything else in their stable is dorky at best, some are downright retarded.
Richard @ Apr 22nd 2008 3:45PM
You are absolutely right there Woody.
With cars there are lookers and there are "goers." You buy a Subaru because they are goers that drive as well as cars costing $10k more. And they spend far less time in the shop to boot. The Legacy sedan is not at all bad to look at though - particularly in Spec. B form.
The SVX was indeed a beautiful car (I had 2 of those).

$24k makes them good $$$$ and gives them room to put rebates on it when the Challenger isn't as special.
Good move on their part.

>>> Twenty-three-nine seems like a digestable price for an entry-level Challenger. And that price may include a slew of features or options that probably warrant the cost.
Since the official price has yet to be announced the bottom line could be on either side of that $23.9K figure. I personally suspect the overall the price will be slightly higher than it's V6-powered Mustang competitor, but not necessarily in the $4,000 range. A base Camaro (when it finally arrives) will most likely fall in this price range as well.
I'm looking forward to seeing the new Dodge cruising the streets soon.
C.W. @ Apr 22nd 2008 1:05PM
Even if it is $4,000 more than the base Mustang, you get 40 more horses and 10 more lb ft of torque (and also a little more weight, if I'm not mistaken). If Ford updates the Mustang's base engine with the next refresh, I bet the price will get a bump as well.
MikeW @ Apr 22nd 2008 1:37PM
and it will be slower.
craptastic 4 speed auto.
How much will the genesis be?
naggs @ Apr 22nd 2008 1:59PM
a little more weight... try like 500 lbs
mustang will run rings around this 2 door chrysler 300. it will also cost less, and be more practical and efficient.
this thing is all show and no go
i find it funny that some of the same people who laugh the loudest as riced out civics think a v6 4000 lbs retro coupe is cool.
Tsunami Racer @ Apr 22nd 2008 1:00PM
after the first year hooplah is done, i look forward to renting one of these V6 models at Thrifty...
Chris @ Apr 22nd 2008 1:03PM
Same here, I figure the only way I will spend more than a test drive in one of these is by renting... just to see how they really are...
